RE: camping in northwest USA

I have found that State CG's have a lot more ammenities than Nat'l Pk CG's. Also, quite a few of the county parks have hook ups, showers and such. That said, as you're driving around, don't forget Olympic Nat'l Pk in Washington State. In May, the Hoh Rainforest should be lush and beautiful. There's a nice campground with lots of sites right on the river. No hookups or showers available, but still worth the trip. On the north side of the peninsula I would recommend Salt Creek County Pk. There aren't any sites without a nice view and most of them have hookups. Also showers at most of the bathrooms. Have a great trip! Sounds like fun.

RE: Your Favorite Boondocking Pics

The cg is about a mile from the beach. Our favorite spot is where the Quilyute River meets the ocean. It was mostly a foggy few days, but we had a great time. The bank of the river. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh140/olyjan56/Rialto%207%2008/071-308011.jpg Seastacks in the mist. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh140/olyjan56/Rialto%207%2008/7-02-08nk033.jpg driftwood on the driftlogs. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh140/olyjan56/Rialto%207%2008/071-308046.jpg Jim by the river http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh140/olyjan56/Rialto%207%2008/071-308055.jpg 17 lbs. of fury. RE: Difference Between Tent and Pop-Up?

I can't believe no one mentioned the view. On those rainy days and you're trapped inside, you can still look around from the pup. Not so in the tent. We bought ours shortly after a rainy trip to Yosemite. There was an actual current through our campsite. We fled to one of the hotels, but at $200 a night, we had to cut our trip short. It never did stop raining.

RE: Questions about making the beds.

It's easier to keep the sheets on with fitted sheets, but I'm not really in the sheets/no sheets debate. And the blanket vs. sleeping bag is a personal choice as well. But, for comfort, my motto is: mattress pads - don't leave home without them. I like the egg crate type. The only problem is you have to put them on and take them off every time you set up. I consider this time well spent. We moved out of the tent and into the pup for comfort, so comfort we shall have.

RE: Photo Thread - Post Your PUP Pics Here

Had a great time up the Hoh this spring. We enjoyed the neighbor's company, and they seemed to enjoy the grass on our campsite. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh140/olyjan56/Hoh%204%2008/040208090.jpg width=640

RE: Empty Campground Sad

I live for late October/early November. It doesn't usually snow around here until January or February, if then. So, camping is possible year round. Once the kids are back in school, the Olympic Peninsula is OURS. This is a picture of our favorite campsite at our favorite time of year. Notice how many neighbors we have. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh140/olyjan56/Elwha403011.jpg width=600

This is the camper we had when I was a kid back in the 60's. Mom made a room out of canvas that she snapped on to the awning and side of the camper. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh140/olyjan56/Old%20Camper/18a19.jpg This is the camper with the room attached. This is our campsite on a trip we took last month to the Hoh River in Olympic Nat'l Park. Got a bit nippy, but we were quite cozy in our pup. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh140/olyjan56/camperpano.jpg width=600

RE: Who's got the best tow gas mileage?

I'm noticing a couple of questions here. I get about 28 mpg towing my flagstaff with my Malibu. We do a lot of camping in the winter. But, we don't get much snow here in western Washington. However, it can get darn nippy at night. My thinking is that the cost of heating a canvas structure over the winter will use up any savings you get by towing a lighter trailer. If you are planning on living in it full time, you should really consider a hard sided trailer. Although we've been out in the snow, it wasn't on purpose and it didn't seem good for the pup. Enjoy.

RE: towing questions

I have a 2006 Chevy Malibu & I've been pulling my pup for a year with no problems. I asked at the dealer first & they gave me the weight limits and such. I had my hitch put on by another autobody place, it was cheaper by half for the same hitch. We bought a flagstaff about a month later. We're looking for a slightly bigger TV in the future, but for now we're doing fine and having fun on the Olympic Peninsula.
